Dual coding is a theory in which both visual and verbal information is utilized to present information to an individual. Dual Coding Theory changes how I would create PowerPoint presentations because it takes two important methods of learning into one. Some people are more hands on, visual, or audio learners and if there is a way or method to combine them in some way – the more impactful and useful the information is. In a typical PowerPoint presentation, I would often only have the slide incorporating the key text that I would be talking about and maybe include an imag

e here and there. However, since learning the new theory of Dual coding I see how much more impactful I could make a PowerPoint of mine and more Interesting. For instance, I could incorporate more diagrams and images that relate more to the topic I would be discussing. Typically, I would have just added a random stock image and not really thought about the potential impact an image or a graphic video could have on an individual. I think why we are discussing the concept of Flow in a class about online and multimedia learning is because most often people utilizing different technological devices get sucked into them and lose a sense of time. Especially now more than ever in this pandemic everyone is glued to their devices because that is where we are accessing everything from, for instance online learning, news, ordering food, etc. With online learning, students often have to tune out distractions and get focused to complete their work – that is exactly what I am doing right now in this moment ironically enough. In doing this, I am hitting the 5 factors that contribute to the flow which are; intrinsically rewarding, clear goals and a sense of progress, clear and immediate feedback, match of a challenge and skill, and lastly intense focus on the present.
